The Tulip Vase looks like a clamshell standing on its hinge. Clamshells have eyes around the outer edge of the shell. This is where the openings are for the individual flowers to be placed. Gladiolas, tulips and many other flowers look beautiful when fanned out in this vase. Without flowers it is a sculpture in its own right and with flowers it takes second stage to display the flowers.
